7 May 2007

Maputo, Mozambique, 7 May – The Mozambican government has launched an international public tender for reconstruction of National Road No. 1 (EN1), linking the North and South of the country, Mozambican newspaper Notícias reported.

The winner of the tender will be announced next June.

The work will be included in the Integrated Program for the Road Sector (PRISE) which, budgeted at over US$1 billion for a three-year period, will provide Mozambique with paved roads and appropriate road signs, thus improving road safety in the country.

EN1 road traffic has increased at an annual rate of 15.2 percent. (macauhub)
