Maputo, Mozambique, 6 June – A center for dissemination of agricultural technologies paid for by Chinese cooperation will be built in the Umbeluzi region of Maputo in Mozambique, the Mozambican minister of Science and Technology, Venâncio Massingue, said in Maputo Tuesday.

The minister, who was speaking after the signing of a memorandum for the initiative with China’s Business representative in Mozambique, Yang Yi, said that the center would help local rural workers not only in producing food and cash crops, but also in disseminating knowledge and agricultural technology that allow for greater crop yields.

“We have to produce grain, fertilizers and sees, vegetables and legumes and we should not be waiting for rain to produce food,” he said.

According to the memorandum, Mozambique will develop training programs, as well as organizing and managing trainees in order to ensure greater dissemination of the technologies to be provided by the Chinese. (macauhub)
