Lonrho buys Mozambican IT firm

Maputo, Mozambique, 11 June – London-based multinational corporation Lonrho has acquired a stake in Mozambique’s largest computer company, Bytes and Pieces, the UK firm has announced.

In a statement released Friday in Maputo, Lonrho said it paid US$ 2.34 million for a 65 percent stake in Bytes and Pieces, authorized distributor in Mozambique for Dell and a “certified partner” of Microsoft.

The remaining 35 percent of the Mozambican IT firm’s shares are held by its two founders, Vijay Thadani and Veronica Miller.

Lonrho’s buy-in to Mozambique’s IT sector is central to its plans to expand in the southeast African state, as well as in nearby South Africa, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (macauhub).
