Over 1,200 foreign companies register in Shenzhen from January to May

Shenzhen, China, 12 June – A total of 1,229 foreign companies registered in the Chinese city of Shenzhen in the first five months of 2007, a rise of 12 percent year on year, China’s Xinhua news agency reported Tuesday.

The new companies, with assets of over US$1 billion, are expected to invest US$1.36 billion in the industrial, wholesale, retail and science and technology sectors, according to the Shenzhen department of industry and trade.

So far, 140 of the 500 biggest companies in the world have set up 392 offices or joint ventures in Shenzhen, the first special economic area in China, adjacent to Hong Kong. (macauhub)
