Sao Paulo, Brazil, 29 June – The Odebrecht group will invest 5 billion reais in sugar and alcohol production over the coming eight years in Brazil with the goal of becoming one of the main players in the sector, the company’s investment director has said.

Ruy Sampaio said Wednesday that Odebrecht aims to achieve a sugar cane processing capacity of 30 million to 40 million tons per year in eight years to rival Brazil’s leading company in the sector, Cosan.

“We have a bold and structured plan to be in the medium term among the five largest producers in the sector, either by acquisitions or development of our own businesses,” said Sampaio.

Odebrecht will operate in all stages of the business from cane production, processing, logistics and national and overseas marketing.
