Maputo, Mozambique, 12 July – An agricultural college will open in the coming academic year in Mozambique’s Inhambane province under an accord signed between the Eduardo Mondlane University in Mozambique and China’s Sichuan Agricultural University.
Mozambican news agency AIM said the accord, signed Tuesday, commits China to supply all types of support to the new college, aimed to train students in aspects of rural development.
The president of the Mozambican university, Filipe Couto, said the agreement with China also involved support to the faculties of Agronomy, Veterinary Sciences and Engineering.
Sichuan Agricultural University has also expressed interest in helping to improve the quality of corn produced in Mozambique through the production of better quality seeds and improved use of the country’s water resources, added Couto.
Angelo Macuacua, of the Mozambican university’s property and material resources management board, said the new college will open in the district of Vilanculos in February 2008, initially offering BA courses. (macauhub)
