Sumbe, Angola, 3 Aug – A project to build a shipyard at Porto Amboim in the Angolan province of Kwanza Sul has been presented by two oil companies, Serviços de Produção de Petroleos (OPS) and Sonangol.
João Filipe Rodrigues, commercial director of OPS, said the new shipyard would produce metal equipment for the oil industry and also offer repair facilities for ships serving Angola’s offshore petroleum industry.
The OPS executive added that the shipyard would be built in three stages, starting in the next year with ground preparations, to be fully operational by 2012. The new industrial unit in Porto Amboim will also produce a range of metal items for the oil and diamond industries, as well as for house building, he added. (macauhub)
