17 August 2007

Beijing, China, 17 Aug – PetroChina plans to build its second refinery in southern China, Chinese new agency Xinhua reported in Beijing, citing a company official.

The projected refinery, which will have a processing capacity of over 200,000 barrels per day, will be located in Zhuhai, Guangdong province, adjacent to Macau, Xinhua said in its bimonthly energy bulletin dated August 15.

The report did not say if PetroChina had already submitted the proposal to the National Commission for Development and Reform for approval, but cited a company official saying that there would be no problem getting approval.

PetroChina is building a 200,000 barrel per day refinery in Qinzhou, Guangxi province, which is expected to be concluded in 2009 and is the first time the company has invested in a market that is dominated by rival company Sinopec. (macauhub)
