Singapore pulp and paper company opens office in Brazil

Sao Paulo, Brazil, 21 Aug – Singapore’s Asia Pulp & Paper (APP), one of the largest pulp and paper companies in Asia, is to open a Sales Office in São Paulo and hopes to double its Sales in Brazil within four to five years.

APP, with headquarters in Singapore and factories in China and Indonesia, sold around 30,000 tons of paper in Brazil in 2006, Geraldo Ferreira, general manager of the company in Brazil told newspaper Valor Económico.

Ferreira also said that “APP is one of the companies with highest growth in the world. By 2010 it will add 3.5 million tons of paper, with the opening of several production lines.”

APP entered the Brazilian market in 2002 with trading Elof Hansson, which sells paper to the publishing industry.

The Sao Paulo office, which will represent APP in Latin America, will be the Asian company’s first presence in the region.

According to a list drawn up by PriceWaterhouseCoopers, APP had Sales of US$4.8 billion in 2005 and was placed 20th in the world for the sector.

APP’s main factories are located in Indonesia (over 7 million tons) and China (6 million), where it has a factory on Hainan island, in the south of the country, which is considered to be the largest continuous pulp production line in the world, with production of 1 million tons per year. (macauhub)
