US oil company to survey Mozambique’s Sofala bloc in 2008

3 October 2007

Beira, Mozambique, 3 Oct – US oil company Terralliance is to carry out an oil survey of the Sofala bloc in central Mozambique, a consultant from the company, which is carrying out the environmental impact study, said Friday in Beira.

Speaking at a public meeting for the presentation of the plan for surveying oil in that bloc, José Jerónimo, a consultant with Mozambican company Impacto, said that oil prospecting by the US company would begin in the first quarter of next year, as soon as the environmental impact study had been concluded.

More than ten multinational oil companies are involved in research operations in other blocs along the vast Mozambican coast, but so far no successes have been reported in the search for oil in the country. (macauhub)
