Angola’s Somoil qualifies for oil exploration tender in Brazil

Sao Paulo, Brazil, 29 Oct – Angolan oil company Somoil and another 32 Brazilian and foreign companies have qualified to take part in the next tender for oil exploration areas in Brazil, the Brazilian sector regulator said Friday.

The National Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (NP) said that a further 39 companies had signed up from Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, Singapore, Colombia, France, Italy, Japan, Panama and Vietnam and their applications were being analyzed.

Amongst the Brazilian companies that have already qualified are Companhia do Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD), Eaglestart, Odebrecht, OGX Petróleo e Gás, Orteng Equipamentos, Petrobrás, PetroRecôncavo, Queiroz Galvão, RAL Engenharia, Starfish, UTC Engenharia, Vitória Ambiental and W. Washington.

The foreign companies that have qualified so far are from the United States, United Kingdom, Denmark, India, the Bahamas, Spain, Canada, Angola, Norway, Turkey and Australia.

The public tender will offer 312 blocs for exploration spread over 20 sectors, totalling around 97,000 square kilometres, in nine sedimentary basins in several Brazilian regions. (macauhub)
