Profits at Energias do Brasil rise 55.2 percent in first nine months

Sao Paulo, Brazil, 31 Oct – Profit at Energias do Brasil rose 55.2 percent to 371. 4 million reais, from January to September of this year, against the same period of 2006, the holding controlled by EDP-Energias de Portugal said Tuesday.

From July to September, profits totaled 130.6 million reais, which was a rise of 14.6 percent against the same period of 2006, the company said in a statement.

The amount of power distributed in the third quarter of this year was 6,190 gigawatt hours, a rise of 3.7 percent on the total registered in the same period of 2006.

In the third quarter, investments totaled 173.8 million reais, a fall of 29.3 percent against the year-ago period.

The fall was due to the conclusion of construction work for the Peixe Angical Hydroelectric Power Plant, in the state of Tocantins.

In the third quarter the amount of power produced totaled 939 gigawatt hours.

On September 30, 2007, the company’s gross debt totaled 2.8 billion reais, a fall compared to the 3 billion reais registered at the end of June this year.

Energias do Brazil controls distribution companies, Bandeirante (Sao Paulo), Escelsa (Esprito Santo state) and Enersul (Mato Grosso do Sul), as well as generation companies, EDP Lajeado, Energesy and Enerpeixe, and sales company Enertrade. (macauhub)
