Macau, China, 13 Nov – Macau textile manufacturer Smartable Holdings plans to invest around US$25 million on building an industrial laundry focused on providing services for the hotel sector in Macau.
Lionel Leong, chairman and founder of Smartable, told Macau Business magazine that the first phase of the laundry would be concluded in January 2008 and will have the capacity to serve 12,720 hotel room and in 2009 that figure is expected to rise to 18,000.
According to the report, around 80 million patacas will be spent on water and energy management based on environmental criteria and some 110 million patacas on machinery and infrastructure.
The laundry, located in the Concórdia Park area on Coloane island next to the area in which several casinos owned by international groups are being built and covers an area of 73,000 square feet.
Forecasts point to Macau having over 25,000 hotel rooms by the end of the decade.
The laundry, which began to be built in January this year, will employ 190 people and initially be in operation for 16 hours per day.
Leong told Macau Business that the laundry sued technology from Sweden, New Zealand, France and Portugal.
The chairman of Smartable Holdings also said that he was looking for a strategic partner that could bring “experience and in-depth knowledge” to the business. (macauhub)
