22 November 2007

Praia, Cape Verde, 22 Nov – This year’s edition of the International Cape Verde Fair (Fic) opened Wednesday in Mindelo, Sao Vicente Island, with Portugal accounting for almost half of its exhibitors, officials said.

According to the chairman of the board of Fic, Amiro Faria, Portugal is the most-represented country, with over half (47) of the 86 exhibitors at the fair, with the remaining places taken up by Cape Verde, Brazil and Spain.

Two days after the European Union approved a special partnership with cape Verde, Faria said that the agreement “would bring a new dimension” to Fic, as the “economy will be a strong point” in the partnership and European investment will be made easier.

Fic is held every year and sells from food products to services and industrial equipment.

At the same time as Fic an agro-farming exhibition will be held in Santo Antao, and next year Industrial Innovation and Tourism Real Estate Fairs are also planned. (macauhub)
