Macau: Foreign investment in 2006 reached 12.96 billion patacas

Macau, China, 26 Nov – Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Macau during 2006 totaled 12.96 billion patacas, more than 3.01 billion patacas than in the previous year, Macau’s DSEC statistics and census services announced Friday.

Some 5.47 billion patacas of FDI in 2006 came from Hong Kong, 3.16 billion patacas from the United States and 750 million patacas from mainland China, according to the official figures.

In return, Macau’s overseas investment was 5.06 billion patacas in 2006 to give a trade gap of 7.87 billion patacas for the year.

Most FDI into Macau during 2006 went into the gaming sector, totaling 32.77 billion patacas, an increase of 8.42 billion patacas from 2005.

The other main recipients of FDI were Macau’s sectors of industry, hotels, and restaurants, which received inflows of 10.25 billion patacas, 2.93 billion patacas and 2.59 billion patacas, respectively. These corresponded, respectively, to increases of 1.95 billion, patacas, 67 million patacas and 89 million patacas compared to 2005. (macauhub)
