Portugal: Portuguese state airline buys 17 new Airbus aircraft

Toulouse, France, 27 Nov – Portuguese air carrier TAP has taken delivery of five new A330 aircraft and signed a contract with Airbus for the acquisition of a further 12 aircraft, the airline’s CEO, Fernando Pinto said Monday in Toulouse.

On announcing the deal, Pinto said that the new aircraft would be delivered by 2017 and that the contract signed was for 12 new A350XWB aircraft, with the option for a further three and a statement of intention for eight A320s.

With the acquisition of five A330, the total value of the deal is 2.9 billion euros, if the buy option is exercised.

The first A330 aircraft was delivered to TAP Monday and should start operating on December 5 and the remaining four aircraft are due to be delivered by June 2008 (two in February, one in April and one in June). (macauhub)
