Sao Tome and Principe: Portugal finances renewal projects for two ports

30 November 2007

Sao Tome, Sao Tome and Principe, 30 Nov – Portugal is to provide financing of 200,000 euros for the renewal of two ports in Sao tome and Principe, online Sao Tome news site Téle Non reported Thursday.

The financing will come from the Portuguese Institute for Development Support (IPAD), whilst IPTMP (the Port Institute for Maritime Transport of Portugal) will be in charge of technical missions.

The renewal project for the ports of Sao Tome and the autonomous region of Principe aims to “contribute to a future restructuring of the maritime-port sector in Sao Tome and Principe, in order to improve its performance and provide more efficient services,” said Téle Nón.

The news site reported that this week a Portuguese cooperation mission was in the country, made up of representatives of the IPTMP and engineering consultancy Consulmar, to boost links with Sao Tome and Principe’s National Ports Administration Company and survey the current situation. (macauhub)
