Macau, China, 3 Dec – The Macau balance of trade posted a deficit of 18.57 billion patacas between January and October, the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau said Friday in Macau.
In the period, Macau’s exports fell 3.9 percent to 16.74 billion patacas and imports rose 18.2 percent to 35.30 billion patacas.
As a consequence of that deficit, the rate of coverage of imports by exports fell from 58.3 percent in the first ten months of 2006 to 47.4 percent in the same period of this year.
By destination markets, Macau’s exports were focused on the United States and the European Union, with 58.2 percent of the total combined, and imports continued to be focused on Asia, with mainland China and Hong Kong accounting for 52.7 percent of total imports. (macauhub)
