Luanda, Angola, 10 Dec – Angolan state oil company Sonangol is due to sign a financing contract in Luanda Monday for the construction of the Angola LNG (liquid natural gas) project, which is expected to produce 5 million tons of gas per year, as of 2012.
Located to the west of the city of Soyo (Zaire province), between the Zaire river and the Kwanda base, the project will make use of natural gas which would otherwise be burned off at Angola’s offshore oil production areas.
Initially, the Angola LNG project will use the natural gas from the Cabinda Association and blocs 14, 15, 17 and 18, as well as the non-associated gas fields.
The offshore gas will be collected and transported to a land-based factory near Soyo. (macauhub)
