Maputo, Mozambique, 13 Dec – Mozambique’s Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) should develop into an oil company with a portfolio of activities including surveying and production and distribution of natural gas, the Mozambican prime minister said in Maputo Wednesday.
Luísa Diogo made the statement of intentions during the investiture ceremony of the new chairman of the board of ENH, Arnaldo Ucuane, who has replaced Issufo Abdulá in the role.
According to Diogo, ENH should train its human resources in order to ensure continuity of efficient and effective human resources management in the co9untry to contribute to the Mozambican state’s balance of payments.
She said she hoped the new chairman would make efforts to create technical internal capacity within ENH and the promotion of partnerships for sustainable exploration of natural resources.
Speaking moments after his investiture, Arnaldo Ucuane said that amongst the main challenges of the company was the need to set up new partnerships in the areas of oil surveying and production.
Asked by Mozambican newspaper Notícias if surveys underway had given any sign of the occurrence of oil in the country, Ucuane said that “there is potential. There is no certainty. There will only be certainty after a well is drilled and oil is found.” (macauhub)
