Angola: BNI and Mastercard announce partnership to issue credit/debit cards in the country

Luanda, Angola, 17 Dec – Angola’s Banco de Negócios Internacional (BNI) will be the first bank in Angola to issue Mastercard debit and credit cards, the bank said Friday in Luanda.

The BNI/Mastercard partnership is considered by the Angolan bank to be “a gain in efficiency” of the country’s banking system, and BNI plans to “provide the best banking services and most efficient payment solutions,” in Angola.

Mário Palhares, chairmn of the board of BNI and Edie Gobler the senior cice-president and general director for Africa of Mastercard Universal, noted on speaking to the press that there would be gains for Angolan customers with this new type of payment.

Gobler said that it was Mastercard’s intention “to go further, together with the BNI, in establishing the payment scenario in Angola.”

BNI’s customers will be able to use this mode of payment both nationally and internationally.

Holders of BNI Mastercards will be able to make cash withdrawals in automatic teller machines (ATMs) in Angola, as well as the Mastercard network at over 1 million ATMs all over the world, as well as make payments in over 24 million locations around the world. (macauhub)
