Angola: Fishing sector could net 700,000 tons in 2008

28 December 2007

Luanda, Angola, 28 Dec – Fisheries Minister Salomão Xirimbimbi said on Thursday that Angola’s fishing sector could land 700,000 tons next year to surpass the previous record level of 600,000 tons in 1973.

Speaking after a cabinet meeting that approved fisheries management measures for 2008, Xirimbimbi said Angola is on good course to beat the record annual catch from 1973.

Angola’s new fisheries measures are aimed to adjust the catch levels to current fish stocks both in its territorial waters and exclusive economic zone, as well as improve fisheries control though the use of new resources acquired by the state. (macauhub)
