Mozambique: Best tourist destination for 2008, Condé Nast Traveller says

Maputo, Mozambique, 10 Jan – Mozambique was chosen as the best world tourist destination for 2008 by, the website of Condé Nast Traveller.

In its list of 10 must-see destinations for 2008 said that Mozambique was chosen for top spot because, “after the bloody civil war ended 15 years ago, Mozambique has become a safari and diving Mecca, with a buzzing capital.”

And it adds, “its government is democratic, its environmental policies are well though out and it natural attraction are seemingly endless.”

“Amongst the country’s main attractions – 1,500 miles of beautiful coastline and archipelagos in the Indian Ocean with beautiful beaches and excellent diving locations, Mapaut, a safe and vibrant city and national parks that are replacing the wildlife they had before the civil war. The number of new tourist resorts and hotels is very high, mainly in the north of the country, and to get an idea of the nightlife go to Hotel Polana, which is a good base from which to explore the capital’s colonial past as well as its present,” the website said.

The list of 10 places to visit in 2008 includes, as well as Mozambique, Saint Lucia, an island nation in the Caribbean, Montenegro, Ecuador, Sicily, San Diego, the Chinese island of Hainan, Oman, Puerto Esconcido and the Oaxacan coast in Mexico and Paris. said that Hainan island has deserted beaches with slight waves and sleepy mountain villages and that it is China’s answer to Phuket or even Bali.
