Bissau, Guinea Bissau, 31 Jan – A technical delegation from the Brazilian government is due to arrive in Bissau Thursday to renegotiate pardoning the West African country’s debt following an announcement made by Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in November.
In November 2007, during an official visit to Brazil by the president of Guinea Bissau, João Bernardo “Nino” Vieira, the Brazilian authorities decided to take measures to pardon Guinea’s debt, totalling some US$34 million.
During the one-day visit, the Brazilian delegation is scheduled to have meeting with the Guinean secretary of state for cooperation, Roberto Cacheu, and the ministers for the Economy, Abubacar Demba Dahaba, for Finance, Issuf Sanhá and Trade, Henri Mané.
As part of “Nino” Vieira’s visit to Brazil it was also agreed to strengthen relations in the areas of defense, public administration, agriculture, health and support for the electoral and parliamentary process. (macauhub)
