Brazil: China’s ZTE and Sweden’s Ericsson to provide Brasil Telecom with 3G network

Sao Paulo, Brazil, 15 Feb – Brasil Telecom has selected Sweden’s Ericsson and China’s ZTE as suppliers of the infrastructure for its third generation (3G) telecommunications network, the company said Wednesday.

According to the statement, the launch of the service will take place by the end of March in the capitals of the region in which it operates.

Ericsson will supply the central infrastructure of the network and is responsible for supplying 80 percent of the network equipment for the states of Goiás, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul and the Federal District.

ZTE will supply the access equipment used in Acre, Rondônia, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Tocantins.

Of the mobile operators that launched 3G with the frequencies acquired in a recent auction organized by sector regulator Anatel, only Vivo has yet to announce the suppliers for its network. (macauhub)
