Algiers, Algeria, 19 Feb – Angola is one of the founding members of the African Energy Commission, or Afrec, the energy sector arm of the African Union created on Sunday, Panapress news agency reported.
Other founding members of Afrec are Angola’s fellow African OPEC members like Nigeria, Libya and Algeria.
“Afrec is a organization for cooperation and coordination but also of action for Africans in the energy sector,” Algerian Energy Minister Chakib Khelil said. The new pan-African body will define policies, strategies and plans for integrated energy development on the continent.
The new organization will also carry out inventories of energy resources and exchange information between its member states aimed to rationalize energy supplies, as well as developing human resources and capacities to stimulate Africa’s energy market. (macauhub)
