Mozambique: European Commission funds farmers associations

Maputo, Mozambique, 22 Feb – The European Union (EU) plans to provide funding of 6 million euros to Mozambican farmers’ associations as well as for expanding micro-financing services in rural areas, Mozambican newspaper Notícias reported, citing statements from the European Commission’s delegation in Mozambique.

One of the statements said that the program to support farmers’ associations, with a budget of 4 million euros, aimed to ensure food safety at a family level, promoting the role of small and medium level farmers in the economic development of Mozambican rural communities.

“The activities will be carried out in one or several province of Mozambique. The farmers involved can take part individually or as part of a consortium with partner organizations,” the delegation’s statement said.

A second statement noted that the EC delegation in Mozambique, together with the Mozambican Ministry of Trade and Industry had issued invited the presentation of proposals for carrying out the program for supporting the expansion of micro-financing services in rural areas. (macauhub)
