6 March 2008

Sao Filipe, Cape Verde, 6 March – The project to improve the water supply and sanitation systems on the Cape Verdean islands of Fogo and Brava, funded by Luxembourg to the value of 5.225 million euros, was officially launched Tuesday in the city of Sao Filipe.

Within the sector support framework signed between Cape Verde and Luxembourg, the project began in October last year with the establishment of the technical team responsible for its implementation.

The project, which will last for 4 years, aims to expand the public water supply network to all areas as yet not covered in the municipal area of Sao Filipe, up to a height of 1,100 meters above sea level, as well as the high areas of the council areas of Mosteiros and Brava and the refurbishment of old networks in urban areas (Sao Filipe, Vila da Igreja and Nova Sintra).

The project also includes the restructuring of inter-municipal water company, Águabrava.

Once the project is finished, Fogo island will also have decent conditions to attract investment in various business sectors. (macauhub)
