China: Natural sand exports to Taiwan resumed

10 March 2008

Beijing, China, 10 March – China is lifting its embargo on exports of natural sand to Taiwan from Monday, a spokesperson from the Chinese Commerce Ministry has said.

The decision to raise the ban on sand sales was taken after a request from the Taiwanese authorities following increased construction sector costs sparked by China’s decision to suspend its exports of natural sand last year.

According to official Beijing figures, some 90 percent of natural sand used in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau is imported from mainland China. (macauhub)
