Sao Tome: UNICEF provides US$ 4 million for social projects

Sao Tome, Sao Tome and Principe, 12 March – The United Nations children’s fund, UNICEF, is making US$ 4 million available to fund social projects in Sao Tome over the coming four years, the agency’s representative in the islands, Batilloi Warritay, said Tuesday.

Speaking to macauhub, Warritay said the funds would be used for projects being developed between 2008 and 2011 in Sao Tome. UNICEF will provide US$ 1 million each year for various sectors, particularly to improve conditions of children in health, education and social justice.

Most of the UNICEF funding will be targeted at basic education and health protection. It is calculated that UNICEF spend about US$ 1 million in Sao Tome in 2007, with most funds being targeted at health projects. (macauhub)
