Brazil: Portuguese group invests in tourism in Pernambuco

Pernambuco, Brazil, 18 March – Portuguese group Teixeira Duarte plans to invest 600 million reais in building a tourist resort in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco under the terms of a contract signed Monday in that state.

According to a statement published on the state government’s website, the investment will be applied to building 1,200 accommodation units, as well as a residential area, and once it is up and running is expected to create 3,500 jobs.

The tourist resort will be located on the plot known as “Casa do Governador”(The Governor’s House), between Porto de Galinhas and Maracaípe, has 700,000 square metres and was sold by the State in June 2006, for 36 million reais.

The start of construction of the resort is scheduled for some time this year.

The contract was signed by the governor of the state of Pernambuco, Eduardo Campos and the president of the Portuguese group, Manuel Teixeira Duarte. (macauhub)
