China: 3.9 million passengers pass through Hong Kong airport in February

Hong Kong, China, 18 Mar – 3.9 million passengers passed through Hong Kong international airport last February, corresponding to an increase of 7.3 percent, said the President of the Hong Kong Airport Authority.

Quoted by Chinese news agency, Xinhua, Stanley Hui said he believed that, due to the current good economic climate in Hong Kong, lots of people travelled over Chinese New Year, with destinations such as South East Asia, Europe and North America amongst the most popular.

Although Chinese New Year is a quiet period for the the movement of cargo, 247,000 tons were processed, an increase of 5.1 percent as compared with February 2007.

In the 12 months to last February, Hong Kong airport dealt with 48.5 million passengers and 3.8 million tons of cargo, increases of 8.3 percent and 5.2 percent respectively (macauhub)
