Maputo, Mozambique, 27 March – An eco-tourism residential and environmental development project along the banks of the Matola River, in the Mozambican municipality of the same name, is due soon to be launched following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Municipal Council and Mozambican company Epsilon Investimentos.

According to Zambézia Online, in an initial phase a working office will be set up involving technicians from both sides and the project will later give way to a mixed private/public company and/or other agreed instruments.

In an area covering some 400 hectares various leisure, social and other facilities are due to be set up and there will also be room for other investors to set up their facilities and projects.

Known as “Matola Water Front” the project is due to be continuously implemented over the next ten to 15 years, creating various opportunities for investment and leisure for Matola’s residents, who will have a place to carru out tourist activities, whilst also creating jobs.

The Matola Municipal Council, is expected to provide land for the project and lead the process of re-homing around 900 families that live in the area and create access routes to it.

Epsilon, in its turn, will bear the cost of re-housing the families, drawn up the area’s development plans, attract investors and support the Municipal Council in holding the first investors conference for the project this year. (macauhub)
