Angola: Government to rebuild around 5,000 km of roads in 2008

Luanda, Angola, 7 April – Around 5,000 kilometres of roads are to be rebuilt this year in Angola as part of the Special Government Program for Restoring National Roads, Angolan news agency Angop reported.

Angop said that by March of this year asphalting work had been completed on 1,259 kilometres and that by 2009 a further 2,900 kilometres of Angola’s roads would be refurbished.

Throughout this year 4,835 kilometres of roads are due to be asphalted and rebuilt.

The Special Government Program for Refurbishment of National Roads was approved in the second half of 2005 by the Angolan government.

Since 2003 8,494 kilometres of roads have been rebuilt.

The refurbishment of Angola’s road network, estimated at 73,000 kilometres, is being carried out by 50 companies, 25 of which are foreign, and inspected by 22 companies, 14 of which are foreign. (macauhub)
