9 April 2008

Luanda, Angola, 9 April – The deputy president of the Executive Council of the Angolan Centre for Strategic Studies (CEEA), Correia de Barros has called for the acknowledgement of the importance of China’s involvement in rebuilding and redevelopment of Angola.

Barros told Angolan news agency Angop that China’s presence in Angola was beneficial and noted that “the Chinese have come to provide their help at a time when Angola needs to rebuild itself, particularly after reaching peace, as at that time th country was having a lot of difficulty finding funding for the national reconstruction process.”

Correia de Barros was speaking on the eve of the opening of the IV Conference themed “China – A precious though controversial and mysterious partner,” held in Luanda.

“The choice of theme was due to the current reality of almost all spheres of society and the constant commentaries made about the work of the Chinese and their participation in the development of the national economy,” he said.

Correia de Barros said it was necessary to “inform political, economic, business, diplomatic and social sectors about Chinese participation in Angola, although people have a certain knowledge of what China is and its participation in the reconstruction of Angolan infrastructure and the economy.”

The 4th Conference is part of a cycle called “Angola: Today’s Reality, Tomorrow’s Prospects,” which aims to analyse the country’s current and future situation. (macauhub)
