Mbanza Congo, Angola, 10 April – China Road and Bridge Corporation will undertake rehabilitation work on Mbanza Congo airport in the province of Zaire, officials have said.
The head of the works and infrastructures division of Angola’s National Airports and Air Transport Company (ENANA), José Luis Coelho, said the US$ 10 million project will begin May and last six months.
Coelho said the aim of the airport upgrade is to enlarge the runway from 1,800 to 2,730 meters to allow national carrier TAAG to operate its recently acquired Boeing 737-800 and 777-200 airliners to the region.
Besides a longer and wider runway, the provincial airport will also get improved taxiways and aircraft parking facilities.
The ENANA official also said the airport rehabilitation project was on a reduced scale as there are long-term plans to build a new airport in the area. (macauhub)
