Mozambique: German Bank funds road reconstruction in Inhambane

29 April 2008

Maputo, Mozambique, 29 April – Reconstruction work on the Homoíne-Maxixe, in the Mozambican province of Inhambane, budgeted to cost 20 million euros and funded by Germany’s KFW bank, began last week, Notícias newspaper reported.

The 27 kilometre stretch will be covered with a material similar to asphalt, which Angola’s National Roads Administration (ANE) is introducing to improve roads and make them more durable.

After this work is carried out only the districts of Panda, Funhalouro and Mabote will be linked by dirt roads, which can be a problem in the rainy season and is costly in terms of annual routine maintenance.

The rehabilitation of the Homoíne-Maxixe road will make it possible to transport people and goods and boost trade between the two districts and the provincial capital. (macauhub)
