Sao Tome, Sao Tome and Principe, 30 April – France has said it will provide Sao Tome and Principe with 16 million euros as part of a new bilateral cooperation programme over the next four years, Sao Tome prime minister, Patrice Trovoada said Tuesday.
During his recent tour of several European and African countries, Trovoada visited Paris, France, where he met with members of the French government with a view to re-launching Sao Tome and Principe’s economy.
In order for the funds to be released a French government delegation is due to visit the capital of Sao Tome and Principe within the next few weeks to sign a new cooperation plan, he added.
As well as investments in the education and culture sectors by training staff, providing technical assistance and supplying materials, France also supports the archipelago in the agricultural and defence sectors.
Just over five weeks ago, the French government announced it had pardoned a US$7.6 million debt owed to it by Sao Tome and Principe. (macauhub)
