Mozambique: China has created over 11,000 jobs since 1990

Maputo, Mozambique, 5 May – Chinese investments in Mozambique created 11,214 jobs between 1990 and 2007, the Mozambican Centre for Investment Promotion (CPI) told macauhub.

In the 17 years since Chinese companies entered Mozambique, Chinese investors have applied over US$148 million in the country, US$69 million of which were applied between 2003 and 2007.

China has 41 companies in Mozambique, particularly focused on the agro-industry, aquaculture, industry and construction sectors, amongst others.

In the CPI’s latest studies China is shown to be the sixth biggest investor in the country since 2003, in a list headed by the United States.

The presence of Chinese companies in Mozambique is notable, mainly in construction of large infrastructures such as the reconstruction of the water supply system in the main Mozambican cities.

China is also building the new national stadium, worth around US$50 million.
