Angola: New oil strike announced in Luanda

5 May 2008

Luanda, Angola, 5 May – Angolan state oil company Sonangol and Italian oil company ENI Friday in Luanda announced an oil strike in the deep waters of bloc 15/06, off the Angolan coast.

According to a statement from Sonangol cited by Angolan news agency Angop, the well, known as Sango-1, was drilled to a total depth of 3,343 metres.

The well was tested and produced oil above 30 degrees API gravity, with a higher than expected commercial output.

The Sango-1 well is the first to be drilled in bloc 15/06, some 350 kilometres north of Luanda, and will be followed by other test wells in nearby platforms which have a significant potential and prospects for development.

Sociedade Nacional de Combustíveis de Angola is the concession-holder for the project and ENI is the operator of bloc 15/06. (macauhub)
