Mozambique: Refurbishment of Cahora Bassa sub-station to cost 80 million euros

Maputo, Mozambique, 3 June – The programme for recuperation of the sub-station of the Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric Dam (HCB) is to start in 2009, according to Paulo Muxanga, chairman of the Board of Directors of the project.

According to Mozambican newspaper notícias, Muxanga said that work on surveying and identifying urgent needs was currently underway, specfically repairing some cracks and replacing worn out equipment.

The chairman of HCB also noted that over the next few months a tender would be launched for the studies to identify the problems that the sub-station has that need dealing with.

Muxanga said that around 80 million would be obtained directly from HCB’s budget.

In relation to Zimbabwe’s debt to HCB, Muxanga said that this was being paid off, as the Zimbabwean government was complying with agreements signed at the beginning of the year for payment in stages. (macauhub)
