Luanda, Angola, 26 June – Angolan bank, Banco de Desenvolvimento de Angola (BDA) has approved funding for a project to set up a tomato concentrate factory in the municipality of Matala, Huíla province, the bank said Wednesday in Luanda.
Cited by Angolan news agency Angop, the BDA statement said that the project, the overall value of which is at least 802 million kwanzas (some US$10.7 million), “includes installation of a production line to deal with six tonnes of fresh tomatoes per hour with the end goal of at least 1 tonne of tomato concentrate per hour.”
It is estimated that each year the factory will process around 12,500 tonnes of fresh tomatoes, which will become total production of 2,200 tonnes of concentrate.
The statement added that the project would have a substantial impact on the economy of the municipality of Matala as, along with creating at least 40 new jobs, it would encourage tomato production by small and medium-sized local farmers, thus providing income to rural families.
The project will initially receive Spanish technical assistance which will ensure the factory’s operations and be responsible for training a local workforce. (macauhub)
