Sao Paulo, Brazil, 27 June – Angola, with 12 franchises, is now in third place amongst the countries with the greatest number of Brazilian franchises, after Portugal, with 29, and the United States with 17, the director of the sector association said in Sao Paulo Wednesday.
Ricardo Camargo, the excutive director of the Brazilian Franchising Association (ABF) at the opening of the 17th ABF Franchising Expo 2008, said that interest in franchising could be seen in the rise in the number of countries taking part in the expo, which this year totalled 18.
The 17th edition of the Franchising Expo is the result of a convention signed between the ABF and Brazilian export and investment agency APEX-Brasil, which aims to export Brazilian franchises.
The event is attended by franchising brands from South Africa, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, the United States, Spain, Greece, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and Portugal, amongst other countries.
According to an ABF study, the sector grew 15.6 percent last year against 2006, which was the highest rate of growth of the last seven years, with turnover of some US$22 billion. (macauhub)
