Porto Novo, Cape Verde, 30 June – Tourism company Sociedade de Desenvolvimento Turístico e Urbano do Porto Novo (Sotur) plans to invest some 400 million Cape Verdean escudos on building infrastructure in the urban area of Curraletes, on the coast, in the west of the city of Porto Novo on Santo Antão island.
According to Cape Verdean news agency Inforpress, the project, work on which will begin on 5 July, includes creating social facilities, roads and sanitation, water, electricity and telephone utilities.
The chairman of Cabo Verde Investimentos, Alexandre Fontes, will attend the ceremony to mark the start of construction of a project seen as a “model” in Cape Verde and which will contribute to the consolidation of the city of Porto Novo.
A protocol was signed between the city of Porto Novo and Sotur to build the facilities on around 100 hectares of land in the Curraletes area.
In an initial phase Sotur plans to build on just 20 percent of that land.
Sotur, which was set up in March 2007, is the result of a partnership between the Editur/Construir consortium, the Porto Novo City Hall and a group of businesspeople from Santo Antão Island.
The company aims to promote, carry out and develop tourism projects in the city of Porto Novo. (macauhub)
