Cape Verde: Brazilian city of Recife to be linked by air to Praia

Praia, Cape Verde, 10 July – Cape Verde’s national airline is to launch a direct flight between Praia and the Brazilian city of Recife, in Pernambuco state, the chairman of Pernambuco Tourism Company, (Empetur) told online newspaper Mercado&Eventos.

José Ricardo Diniz, who recently travelled to Cape Verde, after a visit to Senegal, said that the Pernambuco/Cape Verde flight had been definitively organised and that only routes and transit poinst had yet to be decided, as the aim was to extend the flight to Dakar (Senegal).

With a view to attracting business travellers, Diniz said that at a later date, after consolidating Cape Verde and Senegal, the aim was to attract people from other African countries, including South Africa and Angola, for example.

The website also said that teh goevrnments of Pernambuco and Cape Verde were now negotiating operational issues, such as the model of aircraft and transit points to be used.

Cape Verde already has a direct link with Brazil, to Fortaleza, in Ceará state, which is run twice a week. (macauhub)
