Praia, Cape Verde, 15 July – The Cape Verdean government has provided a financial guarantee worth 400 million Cape Verdean escudos to port management company Enapor – Portos de Cabo Verde to complete the financial package for acquisition of port equipment.
According to the spokeswoman for the ministerial meeting, Janira Hopffer Almada, this funding is expected to be used to acquire new equipment to replace obsolete equipment, as the government plans to provide logistics platforms to improve port services and the sea transport industry itself.
Hopffer Almada noted that this initiative would allow Enapor to build multipurpose buildings and carry out building work on the cargo terminal at the port of Vale dos Cavaleiros on Fogo island and expand the ramp at the port of Furna, on Brava island.
The meeting, the first following a government re-shuffle, also approved a loan agreement signed between the government of Cape Verde and the Official Credit Institute of the Kingdom of Spain totalling some 6 million euros, earmarked to fund the sea traffic management system. (macauhub)
