Angola: Portugal’s Teixeira Duarte to build new bridge on River Kwanza

Caxito, Angola, 24 July – Portuguese construction group Teixeira Duarte will begin construction of a new bridge over the River Kwanza at Cabala in the municipality of Icolo and Bengo in the province of Bengo, state news agency Angop reported.

The bridge will be 1.5 kilometers long and 16.4 meters wide and its construction, part of Luanda’s Public Investments Program, is scheduled to last 27 months.

The bridge will improve road transport between the provinces of Bengo, Kwanza Norte, Kwanza Sul, Malanje and Uige, as well as provide easier movement of people and goods and boosted development for citizens in Cabala and Kissama.

Cabala, 45 kilometers south of Catete, is the municipal headquarters of Icolo and Bengo and has a population of 900, involved in farming and fishing.

Carlos Camuenho, Bengo representative of the Angolan National Highways Institute (INEA), said the bridge project will employ around 300 Angolans. (macauhub)
