Mozambique: Power transmission line built in Tete for mines at Moatize

Maputo, Mozambique, 28 July – A new 66 kilovolt power transmission line is due to start being built this year to meet the needs of the Moatize coal mine, in Tete province, which is a project of Brazilian company Vale, according to a report from Notícias newspaper.

The director of Mozambican power company EDM, for the Tete distribution area, Alberto Banze told the paper that the transmission line for Moatize would also provide electricity to the residential districts of mine workers and other business sectors.

Vale has scheduled the start of construction of some 400 homes for its workers for the beginning of next year.

According to the project’s schedule, coal mining by Vale is due to begin at Moatize in 2010. (macauhub)
