Praia, Cape Verde, 5 Aug – Cape Verde will receive 51 million euros from the 10th European Development Fund from 2008 to 2013 under an accord formalized Monday in the islands’ capital.
The EU aid package prioritizes the implementation of an economic growth strategy, poverty reduction and good governance, with over 30 million euros. Cape Verde’s special partnership with the EU will receive a further 10 million euros of support from Brussels.
Cape Verdean Finance Minister Cristina Duarte said the EU aid will also be used to fund technical cooperation projects to develop capacities of civil society organizations. The funds will mainly be channeled to Praia in the form of direct budget support. (macauhub)
