Mozambique: Government and Brazil’s Caixa Federal seek housing solutions

6 August 2008

Maputo, Mozambique, 6 Aug – Caixa Economico Federal do Brasil is to assist the Mozambican Ministry of Public Works and Housing to train staff in areas relating to drawing up housing policies and strategies, the Noticias newspaper has reported.

Technical teams from the two sides have been meeting in Maputo this week to analyze joint initiatives developed since the signing of a cooperation accord last year entitled “Support to Urban Development in Mozambique.” The teams are also studying issues relating to use of alternative construction materials, as well as ways to calculate building costs.

Angelo Benessene, national director of buildings at the Maputo ministry of public works and housing, says that Mozambican officials have already received training in Brazil under the cooperation project mentioned above.

Created in 1861, Caixa Economico Federal do Brasil is a government-owned financial institution and principal arm of public policies, prioritizing the sectors of housing, basic sanitation and infrastructures. (macauhub)
